Goldie Hawn emotionally pays tribute to Diane Keaton: 'No One Like That Should Ever Die'

At The Hollywood Reporters Women in Entertainment Gala on December 3, Goldie Hawn delivered a heartfelt tribute to her late friend and co-star, Diane Keaton. The 80-year-old actress became visibly emotional as she remembered the joy and energy Keaton brought into the world.

She filled every room with life and happiness. She was pure brilliance captured in a person, Hawn shared onstage, recalling their time together in The First Wives Club.

Hawn reflected on learning of Keatons passing from pneumonia on October 11 while tending to her rose garden. I just looked down and thought, she cant be gone. Someone like her should never die. She brought so much joy and vibrancy. She was like lightning in a bottle, Hawn said.

Through tears, Hawn continued to honor Keatons extraordinary talents. She was an incredible actress. Look at how naturally she expressed emotion, how she could move us with her performances. Beyond acting, she wrote books, explored multiple interests, directed, and brought her unique vision to everything she touched.

Hawn admitted that trying to fully capture Keatons spirit in words or on social media felt impossible. Its like trying to describe the taste of a tangerine, she explained, emphasizing the depth and complexity of her friends life and artistry.

Recalling their collaboration in The First Wives Club in 1996, Hawn praised Keatons determination and iconic style. She was a hard worker and yet always playfulshed walk into the makeup trailer wearing a different hat every day, brightening everyones mood, she said.

Shortly after Keatons death, Hawn also shared a poignant tribute on Instagram. Diane, we werent ready to let you go. Youve left us with light, memories, and a trail of magic. How do we say goodbye when our hearts are shattered? she wrote. We dreamed of growing old together, of sharing life with friends. We didnt get to do it all, but we grew older side by side. Shine your light up there. Im going to miss you deeply.
