Gwyneth Paltrow Advised Timothee Chalamet on Skincare Unaware He Was Wearing Makeup

Gwyneth Paltrow has shared a humorous incident on set where she mistakenly offered Timothe Chalamet skincare advice, thinking his characters makeup was his real skin. Chalamet, 29, stars in Josh Safdies 1950s sports drama Marty Supreme as Marty Mauser, inspired by the American table-tennis champion Marty Reisman. Paltrow, 53, plays his love interest, Kay Stone, a married actress.

For the film, out on Christmas Day, Chalamet wore makeup to create the appearance of pockmarkssmall indentations from acne or chickenpox. Paltrow admitted on The Run-Through with Vogue podcast that she didnt realize the transformation and ended up giving an awkward suggestion about microneedling. Hes like, This is makeup! and I was like, Oh, wow, she laughed. She added that in reality, Chalamet has beautiful skin.

Besides the makeup, Paltrow mentioned that Chalamet uses contacts and glasses to give his eyes a distinctive, beady look. The film has already received praise from critics, with early reviews calling it a powder keg of a ping-pong movie. The Independent highlighted Chalamets performance as a career-best, noting that he could easily hold his own among 1970s New Hollywood legends.

At an October screening Q&A, Chalamet appeared with Safdie, Paltrow, and cast members Tyler Okonma (Tyler, the Creator) and Odessa Azion. Chalamet described the film as a love letter to New York, adding that attending LaGuardia High School nearby made the experience particularly meaningful.

Marty Supreme will debut in North American theaters on Christmas Day, followed by a U.K. release on December 26.
