James Wan Revives 'Paranormal Activity' in Latest Blumhouse Movie

James Wan, renowned for directing The Conjuring and Insidious, is returning to the world of Paranormal Activity with a new project under Blumhouse. Wan will serve as producer for the latest installment in the iconic horror series, collaborating with BlumhouseAtomic Monster.

The upcoming, untitled film is set to continue the story from the 2021 release Paranormal Activity: Next of Kin. This marks the first entry in the franchise since that sequel.

Blumhouse Productions, led by Jason Blum, and Atomic Monster, Wans production company, are partnering with Paramount Pictures for this new chapter. The collaboration also includes Oren Peli, the original creator of the franchise, via Solana Films. Paramount will manage global distribution while also serving as co-financier and co-producer.

Wan expressed his enthusiasm for the project, saying he has always admired the original Paranormal Activity for its ability to turn subtle suspense into sheer terror. He looks forward to building on the series legacy and evolving the found-footage horror experience.

Jason Blum shared his excitement about working with Wan, describing the film as a rebirth of the franchise that helped establish Blumhouse. He added that although the new production will have a significantly higher budget than the original $15,000 production, the core thrill of the franchise remains: its best experienced alone.

James Wan remains one of the most influential modern horror filmmakers, concluding his work in The Conjuring universe with The Conjuring: Last Rites, which starred Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga as Ed and Lorraine Warren. The film earned an impressive $487 million worldwide.
