Scarlett Johansson Reveals Husband Colin Jost Was the First Man to Ask Her Out 'Traditionally'

Scarlett Johansson recently shared insights about the beginning of her relationship with Colin Jost, admitting she felt nervous and acted "awkward" on their first date. The two-time divorcee revealed that before meeting Jost, no one had formally asked her out, leaving her inexperienced and flustered when the moment finally arrived.

First Date Nerves

During her guest appearance on "Today With Jenna & Friends," the 41-year-old actress explained that she had never been asked out in a traditional way prior to Jost. "Nobody had ever asked me out before," Johansson said. She described herself as a "serial monogamist" who had never experienced the standard dating ritual of being invited to dinner.

She recalled, "He actually asked me out on a date. We went to an Italian restaurant in the East Village. It was a lovely date. After dinner, he suggested grabbing a drink with friends, and I panickedI had basically never dated before."

The Early Awkwardness

The couple first crossed paths on the "Saturday Night Live" set in 2006 but only began dating years later in 2017. Johansson admitted she felt flustered and acted strangely on that first date, which Jost later remembered vividly. "Later on, he was like, 'I totally thought that was it. You were acting so weird,'" she recounted. "I panicked. I don't know."

Colin Jost's First Impressions

Despite the initial awkwardness, the relationship blossomed. They dated for three years before marrying in October 2020 and welcomed their first child, Cosmo, in 2021. In his memoir "A Very Punchable Face," Jost described meeting Johansson in 2006, feeling intimidated by her status and poise. He clarified that he never saw Bailey as a romantic rival, noting, "He didn't seem like the biggest threat."

On a 2024 appearance on "Live with Kelly and Mark," Johansson teased about Jost's "naughty side," saying it adds excitement to their marriage. She also humorously referenced the Staten Island ferry he purchased with Pete Davidson in 2022, noting its role as a venue for events like Tommy Hilfiger's New York Fashion Week show, and joking about offering it for celebrations through "Rent-a-Ferry.com."
