Gillian Anderson takes on the role of a true antagonist for the first time in Kurt Sutters Netflix Western, The Abandons. Will The Abandons Come Back for Season 2?

Created by Kurt Sutter, the mind behind Sons of Anarchy, The Abandons is set in 1854 Washington Territory. Anderson and Headey portray two matriarchs leading contrasting families: the Van Ness family, wealthy and connected by blood, led by Constance, and Fionas found family, composed of orphans and outcasts bonded by loyalty and necessity. Their paths intertwine through secrets, crimes, a forbidden romance, and a contested land rich with silver, highlighting the broader struggle between privilege and survival in a lawless frontier.

The series premiered all seven episodes on Netflix on December 4. While a second season has not yet been confirmed, its continuation could depend on audience reception. Anderson and Headey both expressed interest in revisiting their roles. Anderson noted that concrete plans are not in place until the audiences response is clear, while Headey enthusiastically confirmed a desire to return. Anderson added cautiously, We shall see.

The actors described filming their climactic fight scene inside the burning Van Ness mansion as an exhilarating experience. They spent a full day performing the stunts themselves, guided by stunt doubles, and expressed excitement at the idea of doing it again.
