FIFA awards Trump a fictional peace prize to silence him on Nobel

On Friday, the President of the United States was named the first-ever recipient of a brand-new peace award established by FIFA. This honor was the brainchild of Gianni Infantino, the head of the international soccer organization, who surprised senior officials by devising the award after Donald Trump unsuccessfully sought the Nobel Peace Prize in October.

Whether a football-based accolade will satisfy Trumps desire for international acclaim remains uncertain. The president has long sought the Nobel Peace Prize, even going so far as to exaggerate his role in resolving conflicts and contacting Norwegian authorities earlier this year, despite their lack of influence over the committees decisions.

Trumps interest may be partly motivated by the fact that four previous U.S. presidents have received the Nobel, including his political rival, former President Barack Obama. Infantino had openly supported Trumps Nobel ambitions, but when that effort fell short, he seized the chance to create a new award to appeal to the presidents ego.

The announcement naming Trump as the winner took place during the 2026 FIFA World Cup final draw.
