Kristi Noem Ridiculed for Crediting Trump with Preventing Hurricanes: 'Not a Cabinet, It's a Cult'

Secretary of Homeland Security Kristi Noem faced widespread mockery on Tuesday for remarks that appeared to credit President Donald Trump with averting hurricanes. The comments were made during a cabinet meeting where Trump also repeated numerous false claims.

During the meeting, Noem accused President Joe Biden of using the Department of Homeland Security to invade the country with terrorists and expressed gratitude to Trump for giving her a very interesting job. She also highlighted that her department was hiring its 10,000th ICE officer, claiming the new recruit would be on the job within ten days and boasting about receiving hundreds of thousands of applications.

Noem further praised the Transportation Security Administration (TSA), asserting that it went through this government shutdown without any delays, saying all employees showed up for their shifts and worked hard doing security. However, official reports indicate there were multiple delays, including long airport security lines and staffing shortages due to unpaid employees during the shutdown. For example, in early November, wait times in Houston reached up to three hours.

It was Noems comments about hurricanes that attracted the most attention. She told Trump, You made it through the hurricane season without a hurricane. Trump responded with Yeah, as other Cabinet members laughed. Noem then added, And so FEMA you kept the hurricanes away, we appreciate that, before discussing FEMAs resource deployments.

Although Noems remarks may have been intended humorously, they sparked intense ridicule on social media, with many users criticizing what they perceived as extreme flattery:
