Trump Launches Racist Attack on Somali Americans at Cabinet Meeting

President Trump has intensified his anti-immigrant rhetoric, with Somali immigrants becoming a central focus of his recent attacks. During a cabinet meeting on Tuesday, Trump delivered remarks targeting Somalis in the U.S. that were widely condemned as blatantly racist.

Trumps Offensive Remarks About Somali Americans

According to reports, while attending a televised cabinet meeting, Trump criticized Somali immigrants with exaggerated claims and inflammatory language. He asserted that Somali residents in certain states took billions of dollars and contribute nothing, citing questionable statistics. He continued, I dont want them in our country, Ill be honest with you, dismissing any concerns about political correctness.

Trump escalated his rhetoric further, criticizing Somalia itself and implying that its citizens were unwelcome in the United States. He added, Their country is no good for a reason. Their country stinks, and we dont want them in our country. He warned that the nation could go the wrong way if immigration continued unchecked, referring to new arrivals as garbage.

The president also singled out Minnesota Congresswoman Ilhan Omar, an immigrant from Somalia, labeling her and her associates as garbage. Trump concluded by reiterating his desire to exclude Somali immigrants, stating, We dont want them in our country. Let em go back to where they came from and fix it.

Expanded Anti-Immigration Measures

This outburst coincides with Trumps broader push to restrict immigration. Following an incident involving two National Guard members allegedly shot by an Afghan asylum recipient, Trump announced a permanent pause on immigration from certain countries. This new freeze adds to existing travel bans and intensified immigration enforcement, particularly targeting Somali communities in Minnesota.

Throughout his presidency, Trump has frequently directed anti-immigrant rhetoric toward African and Muslim-majority countries, often describing them in derogatory terms. Policies such as travel bans and enforcement actions have disproportionately affected Black and Muslim immigrants, with Somalia repeatedly targeted under his administration.

Ongoing Hostility Toward Somali Americans

Trump and other Republican leaders have consistently criticized Rep. Omar and other progressive lawmakers of color. The latest remarks against Omar and Somali Americans, while particularly harsh, align with a pattern of xenophobic policies and rhetoric. As Trump continues to wield government power against immigrant communities, similar racially charged attacks are expected to persist.
