LAPD: Police Shoot and Kill Adult Son as He Fatally Stabs His Father

The Los Angeles Police Department reported that a man was shot and killed by officers while stabbing his father to death. The tragic event occurred on Wednesday, December 3, in the West Valley area.

Police from the West Valley Patrol Division responded around 8:10 a.m. to a call reporting a "male with mental illness" at a residence on Valerio Street. According to authorities, the son had a documented history of violent behavior toward his family and had previously been hospitalized in a mental health facility for several years.

When officers arrived, they were met by the subject's brother, who explained that their mother had contacted him fearing for their father's safety. The brother stated that the son had attacked their father with a knife before and had also assaulted their mother in the past.

Police entered the home and found the son on top of his father in a bedroom, actively stabbing him with a knife. Despite repeated commands from officers, the man did not stop, prompting an officer-involved shooting. Both the father and the son were pronounced dead at the scene by the Los Angeles Fire Department.

Authorities recovered a kitchen knife and a pair of scissors, which were logged as evidence. No officers or other community members were harmed during the incident.

The LAPD's Robbery-Homicide Division is leading the homicide investigation, while the Force Investigation Division is reviewing the circumstances of the officer-involved shooting. No additional information has been released at this time.
