Two individuals missing after attempting to escape police by entering river

Authorities have expressed serious concern for the safety of two men who reportedly went into the River Hull on Friday evening following a police pursuit.

Humberside Police stated that around 20:25 GMT, officers spotted a vehicle with a faulty rear brake light. When the driver did not stop, a chase ensued. Minutes later, the car collided with a wall on Charlotte Street.

After the crash, the two men ran on foot and entered the river, prompting an extensive search operation. The effort involved HM Coastguard, local firefighters, and a police dive team.

Charlotte Street is located off George Street, near North Bridge.

Detective Inspector Andy Crawforth said, "Immediately after reports of two individuals entering the water, we launched a search to locate and identify them. We are extremely worried about their welfare and are conducting thorough investigations to find them."

He also mentioned that police presence in the area would be heightened over the weekend. "We urge anyone who may know the identity of these men, or who is aware of someone missing since last night, to get in touch with us immediately," Det Insp Crawforth added.
