Meghan Markle Reaches Out to Estranged Father Thomas Markle Following His Leg Amputation at Hospital in Philippines

Meghan Markle appears to be putting aside longstanding tensions with her father, Thomas Markle, amid a medical crisis. On Friday, December 5, a representative for the 44-year-old Duchess of Sussex confirmed to People that she had contacted her father.

Thomas, 81, who lives in the Philippines, was admitted to a hospital on Wednesday, December 3, where he underwent a three-hour operation to amputate his left leg, according to his son, Thomas Markle Jr., in an interview with the Daily Mail published Friday, December 5.

"His foot turned blue and then black very quickly. I took him to a local hospital, where scans and an ultrasound determined the leg had to be amputated," Thomas Jr. explained. "There was no alternative. The doctors said it was a matter of life or death."

He added, "It was a life-threatening situation. The doctors insisted the leg had to be removed immediately or he could die." Despite the surgery, Thomas's condition remains serious. Thomas Jr. noted, "The next two or three days are critical. His left leg was removed below the knee, and there are concerns about infection, including sepsis or gangrene. The tissue was black and necrotic."

Meghan and Thomas have been estranged since 2018, following the incident in which he staged paparazzi photos shortly before her wedding to Prince Harry.
