Putin disagrees with certain points in the US proposal to end Russia's war in Ukraine

Russian President Vladimir Putin has indicated that several elements in the United States' plan to resolve the war in Ukraine are unacceptable to Moscow, suggesting that a formal agreement remains distant.

Former U.S. President Donald Trump has initiated a high-profile diplomatic effort aimed at halting hostilities, marking the most vigorous push since Russias full-scale invasion nearly four years ago. However, the initiative faces major obstacles, particularly regarding whether Ukraine must cede territory to Russia and how security guarantees could be structured to prevent future aggression.

Trumps special envoy, Steve Witkoff, along with Jared Kushner, were scheduled to meet the Ukrainian delegation led by Rustem Umerov following their discussions with Putin at the Kremlin. The meeting was planned for the Shell Bay Club in Hallandale Beach at 5 p.m. EST, though it was not immediately confirmed whether it occurred.

Putin described his five-hour talks with Witkoff and Kushner as necessary and useful, but acknowledged the discussions were challenging and that some proposals could not be accepted. Speaking to India Today before arriving in New Delhi for a state visit, Putin said the proposals incorporated both earlier U.S.-Russia discussions, including his August meeting with Trump in Alaska, as well as new elements.

We reviewed nearly every point, which is why it took so long, Putin said. The discussions were detailed and substantive. There were instances where we said, Yes, this can be discussed, but that part is unacceptable.

Trump noted that Witkoff and Kushner left the Kremlin talks confident that Putin seeks an end to the conflict. Putin stated that the U.S. 28-point peace proposal had been reduced to 27 points and organized into four packages, but did not provide specifics on which elements Russia might accept or reject.

He praised Trumps mediation efforts, stressing that building consensus among conflicting parties is complex. Its too early to specify what we accept or reject, as it could disrupt the process President Trump is trying to create, Putin said.

Putin reiterated Russias commitment to its objectives in eastern Ukraine, particularly the Donetsk region, stating that the territories would be taken either through military action or eventual Ukrainian withdrawal.

Meanwhile, Russian shelling of Ukrainian civilian areas continued. A missile strike hit Kryvyi Rih, injuring six, including a young child, and damaging more than 40 residential buildings, a school, and gas lines. In Kherson, a 6-year-old girl died following artillery attacks that had wounded her the day before, and the citys main power plant was forced to shut down, prompting emergency measures to provide heat and electricity for residents. Drone strikes also targeted Odesa, injuring six and damaging infrastructure. Overall, Russia launched two ballistic missiles and 138 drones overnight, officials reported.

In the Russian-occupied Kherson region, a Ukrainian drone strike killed two men and wounded a 68-year-old woman, according to the Moscow-installed local authority.
