Bari Weiss to Moderate Discussion Between Erika Kirk and 'Young Evangelicals,' Religious and Political Leaders for CBS News

Bari Weiss, who founded The Free Press and now serves as editor-in-chief at CBS News, will host a special town hall with Erika Kirk, widow of the late conservative activist Charlie Kirk, the network announced. CBS News described the event, noting that three months after her husbands assassination, Erika Kirk will share her experiences of grief, reflection on public discourse, and more.

The one-hour program, titled A Town Hall With Erika Kirk, will air on Saturday, Dec. 13, at 8 p.m. ET/PT on CBS and will later be available on Paramount+ and CBS News 24/7. The special replaces the previously scheduled 28th annual Family Film and TV Awards, which will now air on Saturday, Dec. 20.

Filmed in a New York studio with an invitation-only audience, the discussion will include questions from young evangelicals, influential religious leaders, and representatives from across the political spectrum. CBS News emphasized that the conversation will also examine the nations political polarization and explore paths toward greater unity.

Weiss commented, The moment Erika Kirk forgave her husbands killer is unforgettable. I look forward to speaking with her and engaging with an audience that will elevate this discussion.

Erika Kirk leads Turning Point USA, the organization founded by her late husband, Charlie Kirk, who was tragically assassinated on Sept. 10, 2025, during an event at Utah Valley University in Orem, Utah.

In October, Paramount Skydance, led by David Ellison, acquired Weiss Free Press for a reported $150 million. Weiss, formerly an opinion writer at The New York Times, is recognized for her critique of mainstream media and woke culture. Ellison described her as a proven advocate of independent, principled journalism, adding that her leadership will help invigorate CBS News and align with Paramounts vision to modernize content and strengthen audience engagement globally.
