CBS News to host prime-time 'town hall' with Erika Kirk, widow of activist Charlie Kirk

NEW YORK Erika Kirk, leader of Turning Point USA, will address the repercussions of her husband Charlie Kirk's tragic death during a prime-time town hall broadcast on CBS News scheduled for December 13, the network announced Thursday.

The session will be guided by Bari Weiss, CBS News newly appointed editor-in-chief and founder of the Free Press website. Charlie Kirk, a well-known conservative activist and founder of Turning Point USA, was fatally shot while speaking to students at Utah Valley University on September 10.

During the event, Kirk will respond to questions from evangelical, religious, and political figures. The discussion will be pre-recorded in a New York studio and will air at 8 p.m. Eastern, temporarily replacing the Family Film and TV Awards, which have been postponed by one week.

The moment Erika Kirk forgave the person responsible for her husbands death resonated deeply worldwide, Weiss said. I look forward to speaking with her and sharing this conversation with Americans who will help elevate the dialogue.

Weiss appointment by CBS News new parent company, Skydance Media, has been interpreted as a move to introduce more political diversity into the network, which has faced criticism from conservatives for a perceived liberal bias.
