Don Lemon Plans to Co-host New Year's Eve Show with Kathy Griffin to Defy CNN

Don Lemon is aiming to make a bold move this New Years Eve. Sources reveal that Lemon is in advanced talks to have Kathy Griffin join him in New Orleans for his streaming countdown event, according to Rob Shuters Naughty But Nice Substack on December 5.

The former CNN host, 59, had previously hosted lively New Years broadcasts from New Orleans before leaving the network in 2023. Griffin, 65, is known for cohosting New Years in New York with Anderson Cooper between 2007 and 2016, before Andy Cohen took over after her controversial Donald Trump photo incident in 2017.

Don wants Kathy because shes unpredictable, iconic, and explosive bringing her back sends a very deliberate message, an insider told Shuter. Another insider added, This is Don reclaiming the night. Griffins team indicated she would consider the offer if it felt right, and that challenging CNN would indeed feel appropriate after her departure.

Another source described the potential collaboration as revenge theater, warning that if Griffin signs on, CNN could face serious disruption. Meanwhile, the network, where Cooper and Cohen will continue hosting the Times Square ball drop, is reportedly on high alert. Sources say CNN executives are aware of the plans, concerned, and hoping the partnership does not materialize.
