During a recent appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live, Winslet discussed the experience of directing her son in his own screenplay. She revealed that she felt compelled to take on the director role herself, wanting Joe to witness his story come alive under her guidance. When it came to the screenplay being ready, I was going to produce it and play the character of Julia, Winslet explained. I didnt want to hand it over to another director because I wanted him to experience seeing his creation on screen.

Winslet also praised her sons understanding of filmmaking, noting how rewarding it was to collaborate daily. They spent time reviewing scenes, making adjustments, and exploring what worked best on camera. We would read it together, figure out what should stay or go, and what was funny enough. That process was wonderful, she shared.

Asked if they ever disagreed on set, Winslet said they managed to communicate openly and respectfully. She emphasized the importance of expressing feedback sensitively and acknowledged the learning process they shared while working closely together.

Aside from Joe, Winslet is a mother to two other children: daughter Mia, 25, and son Bear, 11. She has always prioritized a hands-on approach to parenting, handling daily responsibilities herself to ensure her childrens upbringing remains grounded.
