Scarlett Johansson Explains Why Her Mother Adored Her Son's Unusual Name

Scarlett Johansson recently opened up about the special name she and her husband, Colin Jost, chose for their son. During a Thursday segment on Jenna and Friends, the Oscar-winning actress discussed the thought process behind selecting a baby name with host Jenna Bush Hager.

The conversation came after podcaster Kylie Kelce mentioned criticism she and her husband faced for choosing "boyish" names for their four daughters.

When we named our son Cosmo, I didnt tell anyone beforehand, Johansson shared. I wanted to avoid the weird looks or reactions. You know, when people respond like, Oh thats different.

She added, If you dont like a name, its better to keep it to yourself. Nobody asked, and it doesnt change anything in their life.

Johansson revealed that her own mother was fond of the name because her third grade crush was Cosmo, giving it a personal and meaningful connection. She also mentioned her mother-in-laws reaction: A few days after, she said, Cosimo is a name I can recognize, but I told her, Were not adding an I. This is how it is.

For comparison, Bush Hager noted that her eldest daughter, Mila, has a widely recognized name, though some in Texas mispronounced it as My-la. She recounted her mothers suggestion to alter the spelling, which she declined, saying, Lets just let her be.

Johansson has an 11-year-old daughter, Rose, with her ex-husband Romain Dauriac. Bush Hager and her husband Henry Hager have three children: Margaret (Mila), 12; Poppy, 10; and Henry (Hal), 6.
