Vanity Fair and Oliva Nuzzi mutually agree to part ways following new RFK Jr. allegations

Vanity Fair and journalist Olivia Nuzzi confirmed on Friday that they will part ways following fresh disclosures about her romantic involvement with Robert F. Kennedy Jr., including questions regarding journalistic ethics. The Wall Street Journal was the first to report the end of their professional relationship.

Nuzzi, who joined Vanity Fair earlier this year on a short-term deal as West Coast editor, issued a statement with the magazine explaining that they had mutually decided, in the best interest of the publication, to allow her contract to conclude at years end.

Previously, while serving as Washington correspondent for New York magazine, Nuzzi profiled Kennedy and later entered a primarily online relationship with him, who is now the Health and Human Services secretary. After the relationship became public in late 2024, New York magazine severed ties with her following an internal review of her reporting.

Nuzzi returned to public attention last month with a feature in The New York Times introducing her new book, American Canto. Written during a self-imposed retreat in Malibu, the memoir recounts her relationship with Kennedy, referred to only as The Politician in the text.

Following this profile and an excerpt published in Vanity Fair, Nuzzis former fianc, Ryan Lizza, released a series of critical posts on Substack. He alleged that Nuzzi engaged in romantic relationships with other prominent political figures and acted as a political strategist for Kennedy during his 2024 independent presidential campaign.

As a result, Olivia Nuzzi will no longer serve as Vanity Fair's West Coast editor.
