83-year-old Woman Killed in Car Accident

Authorities reported that an 83-year-old woman has tragically lost her life after being struck by a car. The incident occurred on Second Street, near Watling Bungalows in Leadgate, close to Consett, shortly after 07:15 GMT.

Durham Police confirmed that the woman sustained severe injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver, a woman in her 40s, was apprehended on suspicion of causing death by careless driving and is currently in police custody.

The road was temporarily closed following the accident but has now been reopened to traffic.
