New Zealand charges man responsible for creating a Fabergé egg

Authorities in New Zealand have filed charges against a man after he ingested a Faberg egg pendant, inspired by the James Bond film "Octopussy." Police had to wait six days for the pendant to naturally pass through his digestive system before it could be retrieved.

The pendant, valued at $19,000 and featuring a long gold chain, was recovered intact, along with its original price tag. Officials confirmed that no medical procedures were required for its recovery.

The suspect was arrested on November 28 at Partridge Jewelers in Auckland. He appeared in court the following day but did not enter a plea. Since then, he has remained in custody under police supervision while awaiting the natural passage of the pendant. A medical check was performed once it was recovered.

"Given this man is in police custody, we have a duty of care to continue monitoring him considering the circumstances," said Auckland Central Area Commander Inspector Grae Anderson. The suspect is scheduled for another court appearance on Monday.

The Pendant

The Faberg egg pendant opens to reveal an 18-carat yellow gold octopus, detailed with white diamond suckers and black diamond eyes. It is one of only 50 pieces ever produced. The octopus design references the villain from the "Octopussy" film, which features a jewel-smuggling plot involving a fake Faberg egg.

Crafted from gold, coated with green enamel, and adorned with 183 diamonds and two sapphires, the pendant stands 3.3 inches tall and comes with a display stand. There has been no confirmation on whether future buyers will be informed about its unusual journey through the suspect's digestive tract.
