48-Year-Old Woman Found Dead in Car Outside Police Station After Possibly Being There for 3 Days, Officials Report

Authorities reported that a 48-year-old woman was discovered deceased in a vehicle parked outside a police station on Australia's southeastern coast. Officials believe her body may have remained there for approximately three days before being found.

The incident occurred on December 5 at around 4:30 p.m. local time, when officers located the woman in a car outside Lake Illawarra Police Station on Pioneer Drive in Oak Flats, New South Wales. Emergency responders assessed her condition but were unable to revive her.

Preliminary findings suggest that the woman had been in the car since around December 2 at 6:30 p.m. Authorities identified the deceased as a member of the public.

Following the discovery, a crime scene was established and the situation was classified as a critical incident. According to the Trauma Centre of Australia, a critical incident is described as "a traumatic event, or the threat of an event, causing extreme stress, fear, or injury."

A specialized investigative team from the South Coast Police District is examining the circumstances surrounding the death. The NSW Police Force stated that the case will undergo an independent review by the Professional Standards Command and oversight by the Law Enforcement Conduct Commission, with a subsequent report sent to the coroner's office.

Local conditions have been unusually hot, with nearby Albion Park experiencing temperatures near 100 degrees Fahrenheit at the time.
