Prince William Meets Supermodel Claudia Schiffer Again — Three Decades After Princess Diana Introduced Them as a Birthday Surprise

Prince William and legendary supermodel Claudia Schiffer recently attended a prestigious state banquet held in honor of Germanys president and first lady. Their reunion marked a full 30 years since they first met, thanks to a memorable birthday surprise orchestrated by Princess Diana for her teenage son.

Schiffer, the German-born fashion icon of the 1990s, now holds the title Lady Drummond following her husband, film director Matthew Vaughns, knighthood by King Charles in July 2025. The couple has been married since 2002.

At the banquet, Schiffer sat just one seat away from King Charles and beside U.K. Prime Minister Keir Starmer. While attention largely focused on Kate Middleton and her dazzling tiara, Schiffers presence carried a significant personal connection for William. Their history dates back to a youthful encounter orchestrated by his mother. According to Naomi Campbell, Diana arranged for Schiffer, Campbell herself, and Christy Turlington to surprise William at the palace for his birthday. William later described feeling bright red and utterly awestruck during the visit, recalling it in a 2017 documentary as a cherished and humorous memory of his late mother.

The royal and supermodel have crossed paths on multiple occasions since that childhood moment. Notably, in July 2002, Schiffer presented William with the Porcelanosa Cup during a charity polo match at Ashe Park in Hampshire, the same year William met Kate Middleton at the University of St. Andrews.

William and Kates romance eventually led to marriage in 2011. Today, the couple shares three children: Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis, while Schiffer continues her public engagements as Lady Drummond.
