Proposals for the renovation of a leisure centre announced

The Brentwood Centre in Essex is set to undergo a major transformation, according to recent announcements. First opening in the 1980s, the facility welcomes over 350,000 visitors annually.

The 25 million redevelopment is expected to be funded mainly through proceeds from the sale of Childerditch Industrial Park last year, according to Brentwood Borough Council. The project aims to modernize the centre while expanding its amenities and outdoor spaces.

The centre currently features two swimming pools, operated by Everyone Active. The council has indicated that a planning application is intended to be submitted by March 2026, with construction potentially starting later in the year, pending approval.

Labour councillor Gareth Barrett, chair of the assets, projects and strategy committee, emphasized the centres significance to the local community: "Growing up in Brentwood, I know how much the Brentwood Centre means to residents. This initiative represents our commitment to creating a modern, inclusive, and high-quality leisure and events venue that will serve the community now and for future generations."

The redevelopment plans include a new fitness suite, exercise studios, spa and wellness areas, and an upgraded cafe. Additionally, the council is collaborating with Everyone Active on a 1.1 million initiative to refurbish the swimming pools and changing rooms, with work expected to begin in January.
