CBS News Chief Bari Weiss to Conduct Town Hall Interview with Erika Kirk

Bari Weiss is scheduled to host a CBS News town hall with Erika Kirk next week in New York City. The conversation will be recorded for later broadcast on television. According to a previously unpublicized online registration form, the live event is set for Wednesday, December 10, at 12 PM ET, focusing on topics such as faith, grief, resilience, and the memory of Erikas late husband, Charlie Kirk.

The discussion will be filmed and aired on CBS News on Saturday, December 13, as noted in internal promotional materials obtained by The Guardian. This marks Weiss first on-air appearance on CBS News since her appointment as the networks editor-in-chief in October.

The online registration form reportedly asks attendees questions like, Do you consider yourself a conservative? If so, why? and Are you mourning the loss of a loved one? Additional inquiries explore whether participants identify as evangelical Christians.

Erika Kirk is the widow of Charlie Kirk, the conservative activist who was tragically shot while speaking at Utah Valley University on September 10. Since his passing, Erika has assumed his role as CEO of Turning Point USA, the organization promoting conservative principles across educational institutions.

Bari Weiss, co-founder of The Free Press, was named CBS News editor-in-chief by Paramount CEO David Ellison in October. Since taking the position, Weiss has been working to leave her mark on the network, with particular attention on revitalizing CBS Evening News. She is reportedly searching for a new anchor for the program, considering candidates such as CBS Mornings co-host Tony Dokoupil, former anchor Norah ODonnell, and reaching out to other prominent journalists including Bret Baier of Fox News, Anderson Cooper of CNN, and Matt Gutman of ABC News.

Current co-anchor John Dickerson, who presents the evening news alongside Maurice DuBois, is expected to leave the network by the end of the year.
