Matt Reeves Comes to the Defense of Paul Dano in Light of Quentin Tarantino's Comments

The world of Hollywood drama flared up recently when Quentin Tarantino criticized Paul Dano, sparking a wave of responses across social media. Filmmakers and actors quickly rallied to support Dano, with The Batman director Matt Reeves among the first to speak out.

Reeves took to X (formerly Twitter) to express his admiration for Dano, calling him an incredible actor and an incredible person, shortly after Tarantino harshly labeled Dano the worst f****** actor in SAG during The Bret Easton Ellis Podcast. Reeves message quickly gained traction online, with fans praising Danos compelling performance as the Riddler in The Batman.

Mattson Tomlin, co-writer of The Batman Part II, also shared his support on X. He commended the overwhelming backing Dano received and described him as a terrific actor with tremendous empathy. Tomlin encouraged audiences to watch Wildlife, Danos directorial debut, highlighting his skill behind the camera as well.

The controversy began when Tarantino critiqued There Will Be Blood on his podcast, suggesting that Danos performance held back the film. He called Dano weak sauce and claimed Daniel Day-Lewis overshadowed him. Tarantino also suggested that Austin Butler might have been a better choice and delivered a series of pointed, colorful criticisms, marking some of the strongest comments he has made about a working actor.

However, those who worked closely with Dano on There Will Be Blood disagreed with Tarantinos take. Dillon Freasier, who played H.W. Plainview, told TMZ that Dano excelled in his role and described the production experience as great, praising the film as a work of art thanks to the carefully chosen cast.
