The Batman 2 Director Supports Paul Dano Following Quentin Tarantino Criticism

Hollywood controversies are far from rare, but Quentin Tarantino recently sparked widespread debate with a harsh critique of Paul Dano. His remarks on Danos performance ignited social media, prompting support from actors and filmmakers alike, including Matt Reeves, director of The Batman.

Matt Reeves Stands Up for Paul Dano

Following Tarantinos profanity-filled comments, Reeves quickly defended Dano, praising him as an incredible actor and an incredible person on X (formerly Twitter). Tarantino had earlier called Dano the worst f****** actor in SAG during a discussion on The Bret Easton Ellis Podcast. Reeves post went viral, with fans lauding Danos compelling and chilling portrayal of the Riddler in The Batman.

Support from The Batman Part II Co-Writer

Mattson Tomlin, co-writer of The Batman Part II, also voiced his admiration for Dano. On X, he highlighted the outpouring of support for the actor and described him as a terrific actor with tremendous empathy. Tomlin encouraged fans to watch Danos directorial debut, Wildlife, as further proof of his skill and artistry.

The Origins of the Controversy

The disagreement began when Tarantino criticized Danos performance in There Will Be Blood. He claimed the film was held back by Danos acting, labeling it weak sauce, and suggested that Daniel Day-Lewis outshone him. Tarantino also mentioned that Austin Butler might have been a better choice and followed up with a series of sharp, colorful critiques, marking some of the harshest public remarks hes made about a working actor.

Responses from the Original Film Crew

Not everyone involved in There Will Be Blood agreed with Tarantino. Dillon Freasier, who portrayed H.W. Plainview, told TMZ that Dano delivered a strong performance and described the project as a work of art, crediting the perfectly cast team for the films success.
