‘People We Meet on Vacation’ Trailer: Emily Henry’s Bestselling Book Will Add Some Heat to January

As the new year begins, movie enthusiasts may be craving something light, humorous, and passionate. Enter Emily Henry, the bestselling romance author whose novels are now being adapted for the screen. First in line is People We Meet on Vacation, scheduled to premiere on Netflix early next year.

The story centers on Poppy, a free-spirited woman, and Alex, a methodical planner. Despite living in different cities, the pair have maintained an annual summer tradition together for a decade. As they spend time together each year, their friendship faces a turning point when they start to question whether they might actually be perfect romantic partners, something everyone else has suspected all along.

Emily Bader, known for her breakout role in Lady Jane, plays Poppy, while Tom Blyth from Plainclothes takes on the role of Alex. Even in the trailer, their on-screen chemistry is palpable, heightening anticipation among fans. Readers of Henrys novels are particularly excited, given that People We Meet on Vacation has sold over 2 million copies and spent 69 weeks on the New York Times Best Sellers list.

Henrys combination of charming romance, engaging characters, and witty storytelling has earned her a devoted following, and audiences are eager to see how her work translates to film. Beyond this release, fans have more adaptations to look forward to, including Henrys Funny Story, Book Lovers, and Happy Place.

The film is directed by Brett Haley, with a script by Yulin Kuang alongside Amos Vernon and Nunzio Randazzo. Kuang is also set to adapt Henrys Beach Read. The cast features Sarah Catherine Hook, Lucien Laviscount, Miles Heizer, Jameela Jamil, Tommy Do, Lukas Gage, Alice Lee, Molly Shannon, and Alan Ruck. Production is handled by Sonys 3000 Pictures.

People We Meet on Vacation will be available for streaming on Netflix starting January 9, 2026.
